Draw Your Way Through Poetry:

This is an advanced drawing class designed for students who have an interest in sharpening their skills in drawing. We dive deeper into realism, details, and advanced drawing techniques.

Each class will begin with the reading of a complex poem from renowned poets like Wordsworth, Frost, Longfellow, and more. We will discuss what the poem means and learn about literary devices used in the poems as well as historical context for the authors.

We will spend time building our skills as the projects progress in difficulty. Your students will learn to draw anatomy realistically- like hands, eyes, and body structure (fully clothed! We aren’t Michelangelos!).

They will learn about perspective, negative space, values, hues, contrast, and more! Projects will include realistic animal drawings, human anatomy, still lifes, etc., which will often take multiple classes to complete.

We will begin the class recapping some basic drawing know-how and then spend a while in anatomy. Next, we will dabble in still life, and perspective while learning how to ink and use charcoal. Finally, we will learn how to draw animals like snakes and wolves.

Taught by Grace Martin Wolfe.

Note: It is preferable for students to have some previous drawing experience- whether a class or self-taught. Please reach out if you have any questions or are unsure if your student falls into the category.
